Chosen, Loved and Blessed

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.  Even before he made the world, God loved us, and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.  God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.  This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.  So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.  -Ephesians 1:3-6

I will be walking through the book of Ephesians as part of praying the Scriptures everyday for about a month. I hope you will join me in this time of prayer and praise. The above is today’s passage.

God has blessed us with spiritual blessings.  What are spiritual blessings? They are simply the gifts of pardon, redemption, adoption into the family of God, and the gift of the Holy Spirit abiding within us.  This blessing is only for those who accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour of their lives.

Just think about it, we are spiritually blessed! Let’s look at some of these blessings Paul speaks about…

God loved us before he created the world. We were on his mind.  He knew what century and decade we were going to be born. Psalm 139:13-16 is a beautiful picture of how God’s hand was upon us when he created us within our mother’s womb.  We are not a mistake.  We are beautifully and marvellously made! We are created in God’s image. What a blessing!

God chose us to be holy and faultless before him.  We were born in to sin because of the actions of Adam and Eve.  However, when we come to Christ and ask him to change our lives, he gives us the gift of his blood. Jesus died on the cross for our sins (anything that is against God’s will).  His blood saves us.  His blood covers our sins so when God sees us, we are clean.  ““Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool” (Isaiah 1:18).

When we give our lives to Jesus and ask him for forgiveness, he gives us the Holy Spirit to live in us.  The Holy Spirit helps us to live for him.  He helps us to stay pure. Because God chose us and we responded, we are pure and holy in his sight.  Here’s another wonderful blessing!

God adopted us into his family!  We have become heirs of the kingdom!

“And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering” (Romans 8:17).

“And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children  of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you” (Galatians 3:29).

Friends, if we love Jesus, we are brothers and sisters.  We are princes and princesses.  We are royalty.  Our Father is the King of kings and Lord of lords!  Spiritual royal blood flows through us! We have a very rich inheritance.  Ours is the Kingdom of God.

I don’t know about you, but this just gets me excited.  I cannot help but to praise the Lord for taking a wretch like me, a low life, a nobody, and making me into a princess.  I cannot physically get up and dance but in my spirit I dance and sing.  God is so amazing!  What a great blessing!

God pours out his grace upon us.  His grace is mercy, love, compassion, and our source of help.  His grace saved us.  His grace carries us on.

I praise the Lord for his spiritual blessings.  As I pray the words of this scripture, I rejoice in who I am in Christ.  Praise be to God our Father, King and Lord.

I close with a poem I wrote several years ago.

God’s Love Song to You ©

I have always loved you.

From the time you were knitted in the womb,

My hand was upon your life.

I created you, in the innermost being.

I protected you from harm.

When you were afraid,

I sheltered you under My wing.

When you were alone,

I picked you up and held you close.

When you were hurting and rejected,

I stood with you with tears in my eyes.

I was there all the time.

I saw all your pain.

I fought for you.

I had angels surround you.

I have always loved you.

I chose you before you were conceived.

I accepted you as My child.

I redeemed you through my blood.

I sealed you with My Spirit.

You are Mine!

You have a great inheritance.

You are free.

Walk in that freedom.

The chains that had you bound,

Are gone!

Satan is defeated!

He is My footstool!

You have the victory.

You are a royal priesthood, a holy nation,

Called out of darkness into the marvellous light.

I have always loved You.
