My word for 2016 is prayer.  I want to go deeper in my prayer times with God.  One of my goals this year is to pray through scripture everyday.  I have found several wonderful resources for this if you would like to join.  I am following for daily prayers and prayer ideas for different subjects such as praying for your family, teachers, leaders, etc.

I chose this word because I believe God desires me to be a house of prayer.  I have had dreams about this idea and many times in prayer, this vision has come to me.  I desire to see answers to prayer: people healed, finances restored, homes and lives rebuilt, etc.

I am an officer/minister in The Salvation Army.  I have been for 16 years.  However, in 2012 I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and then in late November 2013 I went off sick.  I have been on sick furlough now for 2 years.  It has been very difficult as I am pretty much housebound.  I cannot go to church as I get worn out very quickly and I struggle with all the noise, interactions with many people, etc.  I also cannot go out for more than 2-3 hours at one time and when I do go out anywhere, I am in a wheelchair kindly pushed by my husband.

I not only have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I also have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis in my lower spine.  Fatigue takes everything out of me and no matter how much I sleep, I stay exhausted.  I am on some heavy duty pain medications.  Fortunately one answer to prayer is that the pain medications have been helping greatly.

I say all of this because whilst I am at home, I can spend much time in prayer, study, and taking time to encourage others.

Last year, my word was thanksgiving.  I gave thanks everyday for something that day I was grateful for.  I even kept a small notebook with a list of everything I appreciated each day.  I plan to continue to do this as I have been truly blessed beyond measure.

Prayer is important to me.  I find prayer simply a conversation between me and God.  I love talking to God each day.  My heart’s desire is to know God even more.  I pray this year I may be able to do so.

I’ll finish with some verses from 1 Thessalonians chapter 5 of which is my desire to live up to.  Please pay special attention to verses 16-18.

12 Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. 13 Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other.14 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.15 See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

19 Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. 20 Do not scoff at prophecies, 21 but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. 22 Stay away from every kind of evil.

God bless you all and thank you for reading my new blog.
